Assonance

Assonance is a literary device in which a series of words or phrases contain repetition of the same vowel sound, but with different consonant sounds. Assonance is often used in poetry and other types of writing to add rhythm, rhyme, and musicality to the language.

For example, the phrase “Sail away on a sea of faces” contains assonance, as the vowel sounds in the words “sail,” “away,” “sea,” and “faces” are all the same. Assonance can also involve the repetition of consonant sounds, such as in the phrase “The cat sat on the mat.”
